The periods in a normal day, in order. Untick "lessons" for registration or tutor time. If a period doesn't run every day, list the days it does.
From SIMS, Bromcom, Arbor or a spreadsheet. Both shapes work: one row per lesson, or the staff grid with days across the top.
Your export has the subject inside each class code. Name each one — leave blank to leave those classes out.
Short codes for each name. Amber means the code may already exist — check before creating a duplicate.
Cells that don't look like classes. Untick anything that actually is one.
First and last day of each half-term. The teaching weeks are worked out from these.

Each department adds its own plans. A plan is an ordered list of lesson titles: say what it's for, paste the list from a document (numbering and headers are stripped), then tick the classes that follow it. For a class timetabled as one subject you can add a plan per specialism — a Biology plan and a Physics plan for the same Science class — and teachers pick which of their periods follows which.
Everything from the previous steps, checked against each other. Errors must be fixed; warnings are worth reading but won't stop you.
